Some Things Are Not DIY

If you follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn, you saw the link we posted on Monday about MacGyvering. While it is great to be able to use your DIY skills, there are some things you should leave to the Professionals because it is either safer OR simply because it will take the Pros less time and cost you less money and headache in the long run:

Tree Removal – If it requires climbing and sharp objects, it should be left to the Pro.  Not only will the Pro have the right tools, but he/she also has the knowledge and training to make sure everything and everyone around the tree being removed is safe.

Removing Walls – Who knows what could be behind the wall in your home or what the wall could be holding up. Before you decided to remove a wall, be sure to check with a Pro to make sure you aren’t opening up the proverbial “can of worms.” The Pro will also be able to properly re-route any plumbing or electrical in the wall you are removing.

Electrical or Plumbing Work – Aside from the basics (changing light bulbs, unclogging the toilet), these types of jobs are best left to the Pros who know the building codes.  You don’t want to cause an electrical fire or flood your home - either during the project or days after because it wasn't done properly.

Bottom Line: If you aren’t sure what you are doing, don’t have the right tools, could get hurt, or damage your home, it’s probably better in the short and long term to leave it to a Pro.  Click here for some great tips from the DIY Network on how to find the right Pro for the job.
