Our pets are an important part of our lives and families. When you are getting ready to sale your home and move, it is important to consider the needs of your pet(s). Here are a few tips to help make your home attractive to Buyers (especially those who may not have pets) and the move a little easier for your pets:
Tips for Selling:
1. Remove Pet Odors & Stains. You may be used to the smell of your pets, but interested Buyers will not be. Take time to clean the litter box, remove any stains from pet accidents, vacuum carpet and furniture, etc. Don't try to cover up the smell with heavy air fresheners. For ideas on making your house smell yummy, check out our past blog post.
2. Clean Your Yard. No one likes to walk around a yard and find "surprises" all over. If you have chickens, rabbits, or other outside pets, take the time to make sure the cage/pen is clean. A stinky cage, will not only make your yard smell gross, but could also make the inside of your home smell gross too.
3. Repair Damaged Items. Fix any doors, fences, walls, etc. that may have been damaged by pets.
4. Relocate Your Pet for Showings. Don't distract your potential Buyers with your barking dog. If possible, relocate your pet during showings. If not possible to relocate, at least put in a crate so there are no issues. If you are leaving your pet home during showings, be sure to let your Agent know so he/she can alert potential Buyers.
Tips for Moving:
Don't forget to check with your local City/County to license your animal in your new town. Did you know some areas are now requiring cats to be registered?
