4 Signs Your Water Heater is Going Out

When it comes to making a purchase for your home, a hot water heater is not exactly something people get excited about. However, as like everything, water heaters won’t last forever and knowing the signs of a failing hot water heater can help you avoid major damage to your home.

To know when your hot water heater needs to be replaced, here are 4 signs to look for:

Age. Most water heaters last between 10-15 years before they need to be replaced. Once your heater hits its 10 year mark, you should have a plumber check the heater out and start to repair to replace it.

Leaks. If your water heater is leaking, this is a good sign your heater is a falling apart. If you notice leakage, turn off your water and disconnect your electricity before calling a plumber.

Rust and Corrosion. Check your tank for any signs of rust or corrosion which can be a sure sign your water heater is dying. To help prolong your water heaters life it is recommended that you flush the system periodically.

Strange noises. Pay attention to what kind of noises your water heater makes. A water heater will make noises, a loud pop or crack are good indications there is mineral build up in your tank.

By catching these signs early you can protect yourself from further damage if your tank floods your home or something else.
