Who doesn’t love the idea of jumping into a large pile of
autumn leaves on a crisp day? Hearing the swish and crunch of the leaves as you
play. Watching the leaves slowly fall back to the ground like colorful
snowflakes as you breathe in the clean, crisp air.
Once the fun is over, what do you do with all those leaves?
Mow Them Up: This works great if you have a thin
sheet of leaves on your grass. The mower does all the work, mulching them up
and feeding your grass. Make sure to leave the bag off of your mower and make
sure the leaves are dry. Important Safety Tip: Watch for small branches/twigs
and make sure you don’t mow them over!
Rake & Bag: This can be a HUGE task if you
have lots of leaves! This works best if you have several people helping. Rake
the leaves into a large pile, then wearing gloves, put them in garbage
bags. Check out these great tips for bagging leaves the easy way.
Rake, Mulch, & Bag: Rather than leaving the
mulch on your grass, you can bag the leaves.
Simply rake the leaves out into a thin pile, mow over, take the bag off
your mower and place the mulched leaves in a garbage bag. You can then take the
mulched leaves and spread them in your garden and in your flower beds. The
mulch will provide nutrients to the soil and help your garden in the spring.
No matter how you take care of your leaves this Fall, make
sure you have fun doing it! Get the family involved and enjoy the crisp air
together.
