What's Your House Style?

So you are thinking of building a new home - what style will you build? The National Association of Realtors has defined 33 home styles from Art Deco to Victorian.  

Home styles are heavily influenced by the area in which they are built and often the time period in which they are built.  Your home's style may also impact the interior of the home from the layout and size of rooms to features and details.

Not sure what you want? Take time to drive around some of your favorite areas and notice the TYPE of home you like and more specifically WHAT you like about it.  Pay special attention to the following:

1. Shape and size (specifically the number of floors)
2. Do you prefer lots of trim and detail OR clean lines?
3. Features (i.e. front porch, deck, covered patio)

Once you notice the outside, it will be important to determine your interior needs. Here are a few questions to get you started:

1. Number of bedrooms & bathrooms
2. Do you want a great room/kitchen or separate rooms?
3. Formal dining or eat-in or both?
4. Any specialty rooms (i.e. theater room)?

Take this information with you to your first meeting with your Builder or Architect.  This will help them to find or create the perfect house plan for you.
